School of Future Technology & Haixia Institute of Science and Technology

Established in 2012, the School of Future Technology (SFT) and Haixia Institute of Science and Technology (HIST) are dedicated to addressing national and regional priorities through cutting-edge research in biology. With a focus on foundational research, original innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the institute has emerged as a hub for scientific excellence and technological advancement.

Infrastructure and Resources
SFT&HIST boasts world-class facilities, including 20,000 m² of laboratory space, a 1,900 m² greenhouse, and a 300-acre experimental base. Equipped with 68 advanced devices—such as high-throughput sequencers, mass spectrometers, and laser confocal microscopes—the institute supports groundbreaking research in molecular biology and bioinformatics.

Research Excellence
The institute’s 9 research centers and 37 teams have achieved remarkable milestones:

Published 12 papers in top-tier journals (NatureScienceCell) and over 100 papers in leading field-specific journals (Plant CellPNAS).

Secured ¥367 million in funding through 238 national projects, including National Key R&D Programs and NSFC grants.

Pioneered molecular breeding technologies for crops like soybeans, bamboo, and Chinese kale, yielding high-impact varieties such as Odorless Soybeans and Purple Bamboo, which bolster Fujian’s multibillion-dollar agricultural sector.

Global Talent and Collaboration
SFT&HIST prioritizes talent development, with 132 full-time doctoral faculty, including 13 national talent program awardees8 Changjiang Scholars, and 12 foreign academic advisors. The institute fosters global partnerships with 30+ renowned institutions, such as UCLA, Stanford University, and the University of Illinois, to cultivate internationally minded researchers.

Education and Community Impact
Through innovative initiatives like the Science and Technology Backyards (supported by Chinese ministries) and a Tech Counselor System, SFT&HIST bridges academia and rural communities. Over 52 counselors and 5 specialized teams provide technical training and science outreach, driving sustainable development in regions like Taining and Minhou.

Recognition
Dubbed a campus Silicon Valley by Guangming Daily, SFT&HIST continues to lead in scientific innovation while contributing significantly to Fujian’s economic and agricultural growth.
